Students at East Tennessee State University were quietly protesting on campus in support of Black Lives Matter, and some racist asshole decides it’s a good idea to pass out bananas while wearing a gorilla mask; the burlap sack which the bananas came from featured the confederate flag.
It took a while for the police to get involved, they hung around watching from a distance. Eventually, they removed the guy in the mask.
The man recording, Grant Madison, made some good points: 1) the guy was lucky that he wasn’t assaulted by the peaceful protestors, 2) this is the type of things blacks have to deal with that whites can’t comprehend, and 3) once that mask came off, the racist gorilla man was fearful.
Don’t hide behind your mask, racist people. Let the world know you’re full of hate. Also, I commend those involved for not putting their hands on him, I know that took a lot of restraint. Lastly, the racist in the masked looked like a student, I hope he’s expelled.
Update: Tristan Rettke, a freshman at ETSU, has been charged with civil rights intimidation after videos and photos of his action hit the internet today. I hope expulsion is next.
