When you have two heavyweight knockout artist in the cage, you would think someone would be going to sleep. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
Derrick Lewis and Roy Nelson entered the octagon, but with two different game plans. Lewis was looking to take off Nelson’s head with either head kicks, flying knees, or his lunchbox-sized fist. Nelson, on the other hand, was looking to clinch up, wear Lewis down, and finish him on the ground.
The Black Beast landed several hard shots throughout the fight, but couldn’t seem to put Nelson away. Nelson secured several takedowns (6/7), but either Lewis stood up, or Big John restarted the fight on the feet.
Going into the final round, it looked to be one round a piece. Nelson looked to get the fight to the ground and hold on, but with time running out, Lewis wasn’t having any of it. In a late flurry that would have killed a normal man, Roy Nelson took the shots flush on the chin. If you watch the video below, you can see a tooth fly out of Big Country’s mouth. Lewis would get the split decision (29-28×2, 28-29) win over Nelson.
After the fight, Lewis wasn’t impressed with his performance, and when asked who he would like to fight next, he asked for a rematch with Roy Nelson.
