Photo: “Showtime” Pettis Making Changes By Going to Featherweight

Not too long ago it seemed Anthony Pettis was going to be one of the greatest lightweights in the division. His fantastic striking and crowd-pleasing acrobatics shot him into stardom. After defeating Benson Henderson to become champion, he solidified his place with a title defense over Gilbert Melendez. Then, things took a turn south as Rafael Dos Anjos seemingly laid out the blueprint for beating Pettis, land some shots and wrestle.

Now sliding on a 3 fight losing streak, “Showtime” thinks it’s time for a change. Posting on his Instagram with the Jackson-Winkeljohn team, Anthony captioned the image “Back to work @sixgungibson @izzystylewrestling @sergiopettis @tussagb #teampettis#145intheworks”.

Ariel Helwani confirmed the move down from Pettis’ manager, Malki Kawa. Kawa included that Mike Dolce will oversee the weight cut, which Anthony Hopes will be on display no later than August. Time will tell if the cut will be enough to move “Showtime” back to the top.
