A Rematch That’s Been Hoped For

With Aldo out of the UFC 189 main event and Chad Mendes stepping in on short notice, People are looking completely past the co-main event. The UFC welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler, will be defending his crown for the first time in a rematch against Rory MacDonald. You can say the first bout between the two was a close fight. The left hook that dropped MacDonald in the third round was probably what gave Lawler the win, which was the biggest moment in the close bout. MacDonald has won three straight since his loss to Lawler, and definitely has a great amount of momentum behind him going into the fight. The champ, “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler, is known for his knockout power and can be very aggressive. We will see how MacDonald deals with the pressure and explosiveness of the southpaw this time. This bout will also tell us if MacDonald is just another high ranked gate-keeper that welterweights have to get passed to get a shot at the belt.

Since the long jab didn’t exactly work that well to keep Lawler at bay in their first bout, I’m looking forward to seeing how MacDonald plans to keep the champ from exploding at will. Lawler, who has knock out power in both hands, will be looking for the opportunity to land that big shot on the ground and on the feet. Can’t wait to see what adjustments these guys have made for each other since their first outing. Expect to see a one-sided fight from either man.
