Aldo vs McGregor Is On, Mendez Contingency In Place

In the last 48 hours, the mma community has gone through a roller coaster of emotions. In what is one of the most anticipated fights this year, Jose Aldo was set to defend his Featherweight title against rising star Conor McGregor. Early Tuesday morning, news surfaced that Aldo had suffered a fractured rib, seemingly putting the blockbuster fight in jeopardy. From that moment on, social media exploded with heartbreak, fight scenarios, and even disappointment towards the Aldo camp.

However, it was recently shared by Dana White himself that the fight is still on. After a second review of the body scans, it was revealed to be a bruised rib, and Aldo has been cleared to fight. Even so, the UFC has set an Interim Title fight contingency in place. If Jose could not go, the fight would pit Chad Mendez against McGregor at UFC 189. Mendez is coming off a dominant victory over Ricardo Lamas, and has only lost to Jose Aldo in the Featherweight division.
