Ashlee Evans-Smith is set to return to the cage for the second time as a professional, this Friday at CFA 11. This fight is part of CFA’s 145-pound women’s tournament. In the semifinals, Evans-Smith is set to face Anna Barone. Only aware of her basic stats, and having seen a few of her fight videos, Evans-Smith feels she has prepared appropriately for the fight. She said, “I’m not too concerned about what she brings to the table as much as I am focused on going out there and doing what I know I’m capable of.”
Over the past few years, women’s MMA has grown drastically and has become more mainstream. The former face of WMMA Gina Carano has crossed over into acting; while the new face Ronda Rousey is landing ESPN covers. Evans-Smith is also seeing the benefits with the rise in popularity. “There are more promotions we can fight for which means more chances to travel, bigger pay checks, and more exposure (and recognition) and the ability to do what we love.” (more…)

I also have thought of a clothing line for transgender people called “Misstache”, so save all your “he hates gay people” comments for yourself. I’ve even once been checked out by a gay guy, and though I was a little grossed out I also was a little flattered. (more…)

A random thought popped into my head today? What does it take to become a journalist? Is it having superb writing skills? Is it having a passion for the topics you write about? What is it exactly?
Recently there have been several “journalists” pop up in the MMA scene that I can’t figure out just yet; what are you doing? Are you trying to help out the sport? Are you trying to make a name for yourself? What is it?

For those of you who do not know Taylor Stratford, you will soon. She’s produced a 9-1 MMA record thus far with her only loss being to Ronda Rousey. The two-time amateur champion will be facing off in her pro-debut for Championship Fighting Alliance. I was lucky enough to get an interview with this up and comer and figure out how this beauty got the nickname “No Mercy”. (more…)

If you don’t know who Rose Namajunas is, you need to look her up. She’s a fierce striker trained by UFC Pat Barry. Here’s her last fight that took place June 30th for King of the Cage.
