My phone interview with new Legacy FC signee Matt Riddle, was one of my most interesting so far. This is an intriguing man, and our interview was more like two old friends catching up.
I think some of the things in Riddle’s past may have given him somewhat of a bad name around the MMA world. People calling him a stoner that doesn’t take his job serious, or saying he seems like an asshole, but I got to tell you, in the time we talked, I didn’t pick up on any of that. I found Matt Riddle is a family man with a wife and three kids; he takes his career very seriously and could probably run for Governor of Nevada one day. I don’t know if he would win, but he could definitely run. (He’d get my vote.) Matt answering the phone, “What’s up dude?” I know Matt has been bombarded with questions recently on being cut from the UFC following his win over Che Mills for failing his post fight drug test for THC, but I had to ask his thoughts on being released. The last Legacy card of the year is already in the works. I’m pretty sure this one is going to be another great card. Here are a few bouts that are rumored to be on the card. Nothing is final until the contracts are signed. HDNet WILL BE returning… EXCITING! Houston MMA is continuing to rise.

UPDATE 8-18-11: Justin Reiswerg vs Kenneth Battle is added to the card to replace Robo vs. Flick.
UPDATE 8-17-11: Robo tore a ligament in his ankle and will not be able to fight.
UPDATE 8-16-11: Daniel Kim confirmed on his Facebook that his fight with Mark Garcia is off and will be moved to the November card. Fight Card
Yesterday was a very good day to say the least. I began my Wednesday with the usual morning jiu-jitsu training at Gracie Barra Champions Forest. Like always, it went great. Learned some new things and added some weapons to the arsenal.
The good news followed. I spoke with Mick Maynard, promoter of Legacy FC, I told him I wanted to fight on his upcoming muay thai card. He informed me that the card would be a hybrid MMA/Muay Thai card. But more importantly, the card will take place where it all began, College Station, Texas. It’s going to happen October 8th at Hurricane Harry’s. My opponent will by Joey Stubler who is 2-0 in muay thai competition. Now all my friends and fans that have not had the chance to see me compete in College Station will have the chance to witness me at work. Details about tickets, shirts, etc. coming soon.
In sponsorship news, I recently picked up a sponsor in Duane Stevens of Monster Warrior MMA. Some of you may have seen his posting on TheCageDoor.net, this is where I came across this wonderful opportunity. I didn’t know who Duane was at first but of course I did my research. I found out he was indeed a great trainer and I looked forward to working with him.
Yesterday was my first day of training with Duane. It was a different workout than what I am used to, but I will say I enjoyed every bit of it, even if my facial expressions and my language said differently. The Monster Warrior workouts are geared more toward fighters than the everyday person wanting to get in shape. Because I want to compete at the next level, I feel that I will jump on every opportunity that presents itself. In the future, I will video blog some of my training sessions so that you can get a better grasp of what my workouts consist of.
