Bellator, Schmellator
Has anyone else out there been paying attention to this dog and pony act called Bellator? For those of you that don’t know, Bellator is Latin for “We’ll fuck you over”, and man are the true to their word. They base their entire organization on getting fighters that are on the rise of their careers and try to keep them until they retire. They don’t allow fighters to leave them and are willing to go through lengthy and expensive court cases to keep their employees from going elsewhere. Hell Eddie Alvarez, who should be in the UFC, is now considering street fighting in South Florida to pay his bills. (more…)

Cage Combat 14 Interview with Middleweight Title Contender Chris Sutton

Legacy FC 20 Fight Card (May. 31, 2013)
Legacy Fighting Championship continues it’s Texas expansion. May 31st, Legacy will make it’s first appearance in Corpus Christi, TX. In the main event, UFC vet, Junior Assuncao, will be taking on Chris Pecero who is 8-4 on a 4 fight win streak. Coming off a title fight with Will Campuzano, Jimmy Flick will be facing Rodrigo Lima.
Bellator vet Robert Villegas will be facing undefeated Justin Ledet, and MTV “Caged” star Matt Schnell will be returning to the Legacy cage.

UPDATED 4-13-13: Because of personal issues, Junior Assuncao had to withdraw from his bout with Chris Pecero. Stepping in as a replacement, Strikeforce and Bellator vet, Adam Schindler. Adam has been sidelined with a knee injury for some time. He is looking to get back on the winning path.
UPDATED 3-30-13: Updated Card…. Carlos Diego Ferreira vs. Carlo Prater is added and will be the main event. This will be a fun an exciting fight. Carlo will return to Legacy off of a stint in the UFC. Also, Damacio Page will face Patrick Ybarra.

Garcia Promotions: Cage Combat 14 Fight Card (May 17, 2013)
Garcia Promotions returns to the Humble Civic Center (and Friday’s) May 17th. Like with most amateur cards, there are TONS of fights scheduled. But I’m sure more than half will fallout between now and weigh-ins.
As of now, there will be two title fights. In the main event, Trevin Giles will be defending his middleweight title against Chris Sutton who is coming off a 24 second submission win at Cage Combat 13. This will sure be an entertaining fight. Also, Tony Orozco Jr. and Craig Campbell will be facing off for the featherweight title.

Legacy FC 21 Fight Card (July 19, 2013)
Legacy Fighting Championship returns to Houston July 19th at the Arena Theater. This is a star studded card that features UFC veteran Matt Riddle and Artenas “Machine Gun” Young who is coming off a 4 second KO of Brandon Mitchell at IMKF 4. In the main event, we will have Angel Huerta and Matt Hobar facing off for the Legacy FC bantamweight title. Hobar earned his spot with a win over Nelson Salas at Legacy 19 in Allen, TX.
In the other title match on the card, middleweight title contenders Bubba Bush and Larry Crowe will step in the cage to determine who deserves the middleweight strap. Larry is coming off of a devastating tko win at Legacy 18.
On the undercard, Ricky Turcios and Eric Garcia make their professional MMA debuts; Jace Pitre makes his Legacy debut after his return to MMA this past March in Galveston, TX.
UPDATED 5-17-13: Matt Riddle has jumped ship to Bellator. Bellator reportedly bought out Riddle’s contract. As of now, there has not been any word on who and if there will be a replacement for Artenas Young.
UPDATED 5-10-13: After recently being cut by the UFC, Texas native Leonard Garcia, has signed a multi-fight deal with Legacy FC. He will face Legacy vet, Rey Trujillo, in his first fight for the organization. With Leonard’s DGAS fighting style as well as Rey’s dynamic striking, this fight is sure to be one of the most entertaining.
Cage Combat 14 Interview with Garvens Brun
Garvens Brun may not be a familiar one to local MMA fans yet, but just wait. At only 17 years of age he is prepping for his second amateur MMA fight On Friday May 17th at The Humble Civic Center for Cage Combat 14. Trevin “The Problem” Giles is getting ready for his first title defense on Friday May 17th at the Humble Civic Center at Cage Combat 14. “The Problem” is the current Garcia Promotions middleweight champion, and is fighting Gracie Barra Champions’ Chris Sutton. There are people who feel that women can’t compete at the same level as men; for whatever reason, they simply don’t have the same skill level or athletic ability. Legacy Amateur Series 12 Fight Card – June 8, 2013
Legacy Amateur Series is set to bring Houston June 8th for another great amateur card. As with all amateur cards, it starts off with a ton of fights and eventually it dwindles down to somewhere around 12-15 by fight night. In the main event, we have Chris Rivera and David Acosta facing off for the 125 title. That is definitely a fight you don’t want to miss.

After watching all the fights at UFC 159 leading up to the Main Event between light heavyweight champion Jon Jones taking on Chael Sonnen, many were thinking, including myself, what else could go wrong? Well after all the eye pokes and broken thumbs, the main event didn’t let us down with a bizarre moment. What seems to be Jon Jones pushing off his left foot, his big toe snaps under the pressure something similar to a small branch.
IXFA 9 Fight Card (May 18, 2013)
IXFA returns to the Delta Down Casino in Vinton, La, May 18th, for IXFA 9. This will be a pro-am card featuring 10 fights; 6 Pro fights and 4 amateur fights. There will be three titles on the line; the middleweight, welterweight and lightweight titles. Although in Louisiana, being that it’s right near the Texas/Louisiana border, there will be several Texas fighters competing on this card.

Most MMA fans have heard of Fallon Fox recently. She or he is the fighter that had his or her bing bong chopped off and wants to fight against female MMA fighters. Now before I go any further I would like to say, I have no problem with gay people or transgenders, I think everyone has the right to get married and spend the rest of their days in little marriage prison. I also have thought of a clothing line for transgender people called “Misstache”, so save all your “he hates gay people” comments for yourself. I’ve even once been checked out by a gay guy, and though I was a little grossed out I also was a little flattered. (more…)
