Videos: Texas Boys Get a Clean Sweep On The #UFCBeijing Undercard

Three Texas fighters traveled to China, and three fighters are coming home winners. Kevin Holland, Rashad Coulter, and Alex Morono all had impressive wins on the prelims of the UFC Fight Night card in Beijing.

First up representing Texas, Kevin Holland was able to get the third round submission over John Phillips with a rear-naked choke. Holland used crisp striking and an effective should-roll defense to dominate the fight while on the feet. After feeling the power of Phillips standing, Holland would separate himself from his opponent by getting the fight to the ground, controlling the position, and securing the win.

Following the fight, Holland stated, “Phillips is the hardest hitting dude I’ve ever fought and I lost the second-round so I said I was going for the takedown in the third.”

Rashad Coulter was in a must-win situation going into his fourth UFC fight. Dropping weight to the light-heavyweight division, Coulter aimed to be more patient with his offense. Facing Yaozong Hu, who was also making his move down in weight, Coulter was able to use his boxing to cause significant damage to Hu’s face, as well control the pace of the fight. Hu’s was able to land some effective strikes as well, but it was Coulter’s power that was the difference, and would help him get the decision victory, as well as his first UFC win.

Capping off the prelims, Alex Morono had a near shut out performance against Song Kenan in his home town. Morono, like Holland and Coulter before him, used an effective jab to dictate the pace of the fight. Morono was able to draw Kenan into several exchanges where he would land the more damaging shots.

The most damage Morono received in the fight, was with roughly 30 seconds remaining. An inadvertent eye poke nearly ended the fight, but Morono fought out the remainder of the clock. Morono bounces back with this decision win, following a decision loss to Jordan Mein earlier this year.
