With the strawweight division recently being added to the UFC, the MMA community is beginning to pay more attention to the 115lb female fighters. July 31, two up and coming amateurs step into the cage at Ambition IV, in a championship fight.
Brandi “Killa Bee” Narvaez is 1-0 in her young career, but is no stranger to the taste of Gold. With 2 years of competition under her belt, Narvaez has plenty of accolades in the BJJ community. Recently, Narvaez netted 1st in no-gi and gi, in both “Five Grappling” and “Tournament of Champions” tournaments. Something that started out as a way to stay healthy while competing, has blossomed into something special. In her first fight, Narvaez made quick work of her opponent, stopping Laurie Ashby with strikes in just 22 seconds. With known BJJ skills, and now displaying great stand up, “Killa Bee” is becoming a force to be reckoned with. All of this success does not come without hard work and sacrifices. When it comes to fight camp, Brandi has a hectic daily schedule. “My daily routine is pretty intense. It involves swimming, cardio, BJJ, kickboxing and ground & pound” says Narvaez. All of this while being a proud mother of 2, and getting her children to baseball and ballet. With all the early success, Brandi is in no rush to go pro and jump to the big leagues. “That choice is up to my coaches. Although I’m not getting any younger, my ultimate goal is to go pro, but at the same time I’m in no hurry. I just enjoy the competition, training, and love the fact that my kids get to watch their mother fulfill her dreams knowing that all things are possible through Christ our lord.”
Narvaez is fortunate to have a deep stable of coaches from multiple gyms in the Corpus Christi area, most notably her husband, UFC Middleweight Roger Narvaez. With hard work, dedication, and an amazingly positive attitude, Brandi Narvaez is ready to leave her own mark on the sport. When asked who she’d like to thank, Narvaez didn’t shy away from her faith. “First and foremost always God first. My husband, Roger Narvaez, who believes in me and pushes me day in and day out. My two amazing children who put up with the countless gym hours. Rudy Valenzuela and Aurelio Gallegos, thanks for the countless hours of privates and knowledge you both share with me. There are never enough words to describe my gratitude for you guys. My friends and family who believe in me as well. My training partners, there are so many that help me out and push me to be the best, but mainly Justin Garcia, and Elias Garcia. I learn something new everyday from you guys.”
Catch Brandi Narvaez as she takes on Stacy Aguilar at “ICON: Ambition IV” in Victoria, TX on July 31st.
