Legacy Fighting Championship made its way to Albuquerque, NM for Legacy FC 30. The event was co-promoted with Fresquez Productions, Inc., and took place at the Route 66 Casino Hotel. The main event saw Holly Holm and Juliana Werner face off for the inaugural women’s bantamweight title.

Holm came into this fight with a large amount of buzz being in her home town, and having recently met with the UFC in regards to signing with the organization. Holm very much lived up to the hype in the fight against Werner. The fight was very one sided with Holm throwing everything, including the kitchen sink at her opponent. It seemed as if Holm was only throwing about 60-70% in power, until the 5th round. Setting up her kicks all night with hands, Holm finally landed a flush head kick that sent Werner to the canvas, where she finished with some clean punches. Holm earned the Legacy Fighting Championship Women’s Bantamweight title with the win.

The co-main event was Donald Sanchez taking on Flavio Alvaro. With close to 100 fights between the two, both fighters brought a large amount of experience to the cage. Alvaro was able to use his superior striking and muay thai clench to control the majority of the fight. The major factor in the fight would be the altitude of New Mexico. Alvaro seemed to slow down tremendously at the end of the 2nd round and in the 3rd. Sanchez just didn’t have enough left in him to come from behind and finish. Alvaro would get the decision win.

In what was a fast action grappling match, with punches, was the flyweights Nick Urso and Ray Borg. There was tons of ground work and transitions between the two, but it wasn’t until the 2nd round that Borg would pick up the pace and get the finish. Borg was able to catch a kick and get the takedown on Urso, then transition to mount. Urso attempted to escape, but the elbows were too much. Urso would eventually give up the back and Borg would lock in the rear-naked choke. Leading up to the fight, Borg made the prediction he would win by RNC in the 2nd.

Adrian Cruz and Henry Briones started off with Cruz missing a big punch and Briones landing in a front head lock. Cruz would eventually escape and land on top in the guard of Briones. Another fight where cardio played a role, there was also a point deduction. Briones had the back of Cruz and landed punch to the back of the head, the ref immediately took a point away from Briones; there was no warning or anything. The final round was all Briones. Briones takes Cruz and lands solid ground and pound. The fight ended in a draw (29-27, 28-27, 28-28).

Clint Roberts vs. Marin Sano was a grappler versus striker match. The opening round showed to fighters swinging with everything on the outside, and dirty boxing on the inside. Sano would eventually straighten up his punches and begin landing more clean shots. Sano would trip Roberts, land on his back, and lock in the rear-naked choke in the 2nd round.

The opening fight on the main card was Kamaru Usman taking on Lenny Lovato. Lovato would come into the fight 10 pounds overweight, but none of that would matter. Usman developed an improved striking game since his last fight, and put every bit of it on display. Usman worked knees and elbows in the clench, as well as crisp punches and kicks in the open cage. In the 3rd round, Usman would get the takedown and rain down big shots. The ref stepped in and stopped the fight just over a minute in the final round.
