Remember the Name: Cody Gabelman

At 22 years of age, Cody Gabelman holds a professional MMA record of 5-2, and on August 13, he faces CJ Hamilton (8-4) for the Valor Fights Flyweight Title.

Now training with team G-Force in Cincinnati, Cody began his MMA journey with karate, jiu-jitsu, and wrestling. Cody is stepping into the cage against a more experienced opponent but does not seem phased. Cody stated that he fights at a higher caliber when he’s in the cage with a high-caliber opponent. Also, he enjoys fighting away from home because he believes he is more motivated than when at home. Although it is his first title shot, Cody does not seem phased. Nothing excites him more than fighting five rounds for not only a win but, also the flyweight title.

Cody believes the fight with CJ will be fast paced because they are both quick and aggressive fighters. Fighting for the title against a guy like CJ Hamilton is one thing Cody enjoys in the sport. Although he enjoys all aspects of martial arts, Cody doesn’t think weightlifting or CrossFit are useful in MMA.

Cody had planned on trying out for The Ultimate Fighter season 24, but the tryouts were canceled. The winner of that season was said to get a title shot. Coincidentally, if Cody could fight anyone, it would be UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson.

Cody looks up to any fighter that puts on a show for the fans. Fighters like Dominick Cruz and Lyoto Machida are individuals he mentioned. In three years, Cody sees himself as a homeowner and a world traveled fighter. Eventually, Cody would like to quit his day job and become a full-time fighter, as he is in the gym several hours a day.

Cody Gableman fights for the Valor Fights Flyweight title on August 13 at Valor Fights 36.
