TDLR Creates Combat Sports Advisory Board

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) now has a voice when it comes to combat sports. An advisory board has been created to assist with various issues that others in the past had no real experience with. There had been a committee in place for quite some time, but it was made up only doctors and was part of a medical advisory committee.

Several members of the Texas combat sports community made a suggestion to the state that a committee made up of promoters, officials, fighters, etc., be put in place because of their experience in combat sports.

As of June 22, 2016, the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation unanimously approved Commission Chairman, Mike Arismendez’ recommendations for the Board’s membership. Each recommended member will have a term limit for their seat.

The Department will be hosting a one-day advisory board summit that will focus on agency procedures, advisory board meeting best practices, and an overall introduction to TDLR. The Summit will provide the members with an opportunity to acquaint themselves with important legal obligations relating to open meetings and the roles and responsibilities of TDLR staff.
