‘Cyborg’ to make UFC debut at UFC 198

Cris “Cyborg” Santos, a perennial powerhouse in WMMA, will make her highly anticipated UFC debut at UFC 198 in Curitiba, Brazil.

Cyborg (15-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will face Leslie Smith (8-6-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) at a catchweight of 140 lbs. Smith is coming off a recent decision win over Rin Nakai while Cyborg KO’d Daria Ibragimova at Invicta FC 15.

Santos has been considered one of the best female fighters for years. Known for her vicious strikes, Cyborg has tallied 13 wins by way of KO/TKO. Settling on a weight has been one of the main issues with securing a fight in the UFC.

If she’s able to maintain her weight, Cyborg has the chance to make a real impact in the UFC, whether it’s in catchweight bouts or in the bantamweight division. Potential match-ups with Cat Zingano, Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate and Holly Holm would definitely draw eyes to the screen and bring fireworks to the cage.

UFC 198 will take place May 14 in Curitiba, Brazil at Arena de Baixada and is headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic.
