Daniel Pineda Looking To Get His Groove Back

One of Houston’s most talented fighters, Daniel Pineda, won’t be seen in the UFC octagon for his next fight. After starting his UFC career with back to back first round finishes, Pineda went 1-4 in his next five fights.

Out of his seven fights in the UFC, all but one were short notice fights. The only fight he had a full training camp for would be against former WEC Featherweight Champion, Mike Brown.

Pineda’s last fight, which took place at UFC 171 against Rob Whiteford, would be the final fight on his contract; the UFC would not re-sign him. He was not cut from the organization like some media outlets would lead you to believe.

Pineda says that he is fielding offers from other organizations at the moment, but his ultimate goal is re-sign with the UFC. According to Pineda, UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby informed him to get a few wins on the regional circuit, and he’ll be back. He needs to get his groove back.

The ideal situation for Pineda is to get the wins needed to get back in the organization, and fight on the UFC 180 card in November. This will be the first time the UFC will have an event in Mexico.
