Video: Riddick Bowe Gets Chopped Down In Muay Thai Debut

AP Photo

Recently, I heard news of retired former boxing heavyweight champion, Riddick Bowe, making his debut in muay thai. I simply thought it was something to get his name in the press and he wouldn’t actually go through with it; I was wrong. (more…)

Duane “Bang” Ludwig on Team Alpha Male

I had the chance to catch up with the new Team Alpha Male Muay Thai instructor Duane Ludwig via phone while he was in Bristol, TN doing a seminar. It was late in the evening and he was in his room watching fight footage, I also was watching fight footage from my couch. I wanted to talk with Duane about the recent success of Team Alpha Male since he made to move to Sacramento, CA to become their new Muay Thai coach. (more…)

“The Killher Bee”…Pre Fight Interview With Bebe Laced

I had a chance to talk with the very talented Bebe “Killher Bee” Laced before her Muay Thai fight this Saturday in Muskogee, OK.

MC: So who is your opponent now? I know it’s changed a couple times recently?
BL: I am now fighting my original opponent, Shahin Khadir from Manitoba Canada; at a catch weight of 115lbs which is 10lbs heavier than our original weight. My opponent has been changed twice and the matchmakers at Striking promotion have done their part and more to make this fight happen for me. It’s a shame that fighters sometimes make it hard to do so. (more…)

Talking With Duane Ludwig

There I was in my hotel in downtown Houston waiting for the Legacy 18 fights and waiting for Duane Ludwig to call for a phone interview. I had a few hours to kill before Mr. Ludwig called so I hung out at the hotel bar talking to some guy holding a poodle about why I was in town. Went back to my room and treated my non-smoking hotel sign with the same respect I treat stop signs with when no one is around. Then I got a call from a Denver, CO phone number, and I know my bill collectors call out of Oklahoma and Florida so I was okay to answer it. (more…)

Legacy 18 Pre-Fight Interview With Jermaine Anugwom

I caught up with Legacy fighter Jermaine Anugwom before a photo shoot for the gym was getting ready to take place. Naturally the photographer saw me and wanted me in some shots so be on the lookout for those on WindySportandFitness.com, spoiler alert I’m doing the Burt Reynolds’s Playgirl pose but way better. Anyways, enough about me let’s get to the real reason I was at the photo shoot, to interview Jermaine on his upcoming fight with Chris Reed. (more…)

They Like The Way It Hurts

“In America we say you play football, you play baseball, you play basketball. You don’t play boxing. Boxing is serious stuff.” – Larry Merchant

I believe the same can be said about MMA/Muay Thai fights. You never hear a fighter say they are getting ready to play against someone; they are getting ready to fight someone. Before they step in the ring or the cage they accept the fact that they will be kicked and punched, and pushed to their physical limits with only a referee in $12 slacks to stand in between them and the other person across from them. In my opinion, all fighters are a little crazy, but in a good way. (more…)

Upcoming fight; New Sponsor

Yesterday was a very good day to say the least. I began my Wednesday with the usual morning jiu-jitsu training at Gracie Barra Champions Forest. Like always, it went great. Learned some new things and added some weapons to the arsenal.

The good news followed. I spoke with Mick Maynard, promoter of Legacy FC, I told him I wanted to fight on his upcoming muay thai card. He informed me that the card would be a hybrid MMA/Muay Thai card. But more importantly, the card will take place where it all began, College Station, Texas. It’s going to happen October 8th at Hurricane Harry’s. My opponent will by Joey Stubler who is 2-0 in muay thai competition. Now all my friends and fans that have not had the chance to see me compete in College Station will have the chance to witness me at work. Details about tickets, shirts, etc. coming soon.

In sponsorship news, I recently picked up a sponsor in Duane Stevens of Monster Warrior MMA. Some of you may have seen his posting on TheCageDoor.net, this is where I came across this wonderful opportunity. I didn’t know who Duane was at first but of course I did my research. I found out he was indeed a great trainer and I looked forward to working with him.

Yesterday was my first day of training with Duane. It was a different workout than what I am used to, but I will say I enjoyed every bit of it, even if my facial expressions and my language said differently. The Monster Warrior workouts are geared more toward fighters than the everyday person wanting to get in shape. Because I want to compete at the next level, I feel that I will jump on every opportunity that presents itself. In the future, I will video blog some of my training sessions so that you can get a better grasp of what my workouts consist of.
