Meryl Streep received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes on Sunday night. While giving her speech, she took a few shots at president-elect Trump; she also mentioned MMA, and not in a positive way.
“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts.”
Her quote is in reference to Trump’s disdain for some foreigners, and also how this country is diverse. It’s clear that Meryl doesn’t watch MMA, and has no clue about its diversity. However, Bellator President Scott Coker responded eloquently to the subtle jab thrown. Coker posted an open letter to inform Meryl that he is a lifelong fan of her work, and went as far as to invite her to a Bellator event in LA later this month.
You can read the letter from Scott Coker below, as well as watch Meryl Streep’s acceptance speech. Outside of the jab at MMA, it was a great speech.
