Ed Soares, Legacy Fighting Alliance CEO and Anderson Silva’s manager, posted on Instagram that #7 Anderson Silva will face #8 Derek Brunson at UFC 208 in Brooklyn, NY.
The GOAT, as many will describe Anderson Silva, is 0-4-1 in his last 5 fights, including losing his title to the now former UFC Middleweight Champion, Chris Weidman. Silva’s last fight was against the current light-heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, at UFC 200 when he stepped up on 48hr notice; he replaced Jon Jones after he was pulled from the card for an anti-doping violation.
Derek Brunson is looking to get back to his winning ways after suffering a TKO loss to Robert Whittaker at UFC Fight Night 101. Prior to that fight, Brunson was riding a 5-fight winning streak, which included wins over Uriah Hall, Roan Carneiro, and Sam Alvey.
Anderson Silva, at 41-years-old, will be Brunson’s toughest test. With a win over The GOAT, Brunson won’t move up the rankings latter much. Silva, on the other hand, may get a top 5 opponent. This is under the notion Silva will continue to fight.
