Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal returned to Japan, the place where his MMA career began, and scored a first round knockout over Brett McDermott. The bout was scheduled as part of the opening round of the Rizin Fighting Federation Heavyweight tournament. Going into the fight, Mo was riding 4-fight winning streak, his most recent win at Bellator 142 against Linton Vassell.
“King Mo” used his wrestling to control the fight early on, and wore down McDermott. McDermott was able to get back to his feet, but with the 10-minute opening round, Mo’s pace was too much. On the feet, Mo used his quick hands to land clean shots, and eventually landed the one punch knockout.
After the fight, Mo called into the ring Heath Herring and Mark Coleman. Mo wanted to get the King Mo chant started. Mo advances to the next round of the tournament, and will face Teodoras Aukstuolis on New Years Eve.
