The first two fights would only total :37 seconds of cage time. Craig Grove dispatched Aristus Woodard in :23, while Kesler Jones would one up him with a :14 second KO of Tony Nguyen. The third fight was something like a school bully beating up an underclassman, and there is no one around to break up the fight. Hector Renoj had nothing for Christian Lira. Lira controlled the fight by landing takedown after takedown, shot after shot. There was no punch that looked like it would knock Renoj out, but the volume of face punching was very high.
In what would end up being FOTN, Casey Malik and Jordan Zendejas kept a very high pace for a pair of heavyweights. There were several moments in the fight where you would think Zendejas would stop Malik, but Malik showed great heart and would end up running out of time and unable to finish him in the final round. Another pair of heavyweights would put out a high paced fight. Rick Gonzalez finished Mario Mancillas in the third round via ground and pound.
In a featured attraction fight, we had Nico Dailey (0-6) taking on Chase Eastham (0-3); someone’s “0” had to go! Both fighters came out looking to dictate the pace of the fight, and when you’re 115 pounds, that pace is going to be high. Going into the third round it was 1-1. But it would be Eastham who would get the armbar submission, and his first MMA victory.
Maurice Horn stepped in last-minute to face Scott McFerren. This was a nice back and forth fight, that had a little bit of everything. But McFerren would prove to be too much for Horn, and got the TKO finish in the second round.
The next two fights would be a little one-sided. First, there was Dayron Vasquez finishing Nick Ortiz with an armbar in about a minute and a half. Then, we would see Lincoln Hilton have his way with Robert Ford. For showed heart by being able to take it into the second round, but Hilton was too much for him on the ground. Hilton would get the TKO win.
Corpus Christi fighter, David Waters, traveled all the way up the Gulf to Galveston, to take on Hugo Delafuente. Delafuente showed tons of heart in this fight, but Waters was just too much. Landing some big shots that hurt Delafuente, in the second round Waters earned the TKO stoppage.
The co-main event had the return of Jacob Silva, taking on Daniel Turner for the 125 belt. It has been over a year since the Silva has fought in Texas, but it seems he would pick up where he left off. The veteran Silva, proved to be too much for Turner. Silva is able to hop on Turners back and lock in the rear-naked choke in the first round.
The main event was for the 170 title, and it would be the undefeated Dominique Wiltz taking on Fabian Galavez. From the beginning to the end, Galavez controlled this fight. Using crisp boxing, mixed with takedowns, Galavez was on a mission to get that belt. Galavez landed some bombs, and eventually the ref had seen enough (possibly seen later than others) and stopped the fight.
