Project MMA Is Looking To Help Veterans

When a person joins any branch of the United States Military, they join a family. A family that trains, eats, sleeps, and goes to war together; they are close, tight-knit, and look after each other. This is true even after these soldiers are sent home. Most of the time these soldiers are not the same, sometimes even disabled. They need a release to get their minds off of personal problems. This is where SSG Michael J. Goss come in. Having served in the U.S. Army for over 9 years, Goss knows what it’s like to return home to an entirely different world. Having trained in MMA under Stacy Jorgenson at Weapons At Hand in Corpus Christi, Goss knows how much the sport can help.

Goss started Project MMA, a program aimed at providing free MMA training to disabled veterans. Working on donations alone, Goss has already helped 13 veterans between San Antonio and Corpus Christi. While teaching martial arts, Goss plans to help veterans deal with their recent developed disabilities, as well as PTSD. To sign up, Goss said there are only two requirements: “You must be a veteran, and disabled, and no documentation required. As veterans, we believe in trusting each other. If you are lying it will come to light.”

A program as great as this, can only continue with the help of others. A GoFundMe has been set up to pay for gym time for these soldiers. To help with donations visit GoFundMe.com/OperationMMA.
