Ronda Rousey To Star In Road House Remake

Growing up, I constantly heard about this movie called “Road House,” but never actually sat and watched it. Then Peter Griffin came along and spoofed it in an episode of Family Guy. I told myself, I must see this movie that Peter Griffin is a fan of. After watching Road House for the first time, I was terribly upset that I had deprived myself all these years, of an 80’s action movie masterpiece.

As I’ve stated before, Ronda Rousey is in a league of her own. She is now being cast as the lead role for the reboot. She will play the female version of “Dalton,” the role Patrick Swayze made famous.

The UFC women’s bantamweight champion will star in a reprisal of 1980s cult classic Road House, her agent Brand Slater of William Morris Endeavor told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani. Rousey will be in the lead role that Patrick Swayze held in the original.

MGM owns the project and selected Rousey for the starring role, but a screenplay still needs to be written. Rousey reached out to Swayze’s widow, Lisa Nieme, to get approval for the part and received it, Slater said. Swayze died in 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

“Road House,” which came out in 1989, featured Swayze as a bouncer who protected a small Missouri town from a corrupt businessman. The new version will feature Rousey as a female lead and a new spin on the original idea.

“Production of the movie will be dictated, as always, by her fight schedule,” Slater said. “That’s how we always do it and that will be the case here.”

Yep, I’ll be there opening night.
