Pinche’s Picks: UFC 175

Pinche's Picks UFC 175

Rock, flag, and eagle Americans! Hope everyone has an amazing Fourth of July weekend celebrating the best country in the world’s birthday, and enjoying a weekend full of face punching. This weekend while you guys are out there mixing alcohol and fireworks, don’t overlook UFC 175, as well as the The Ultimate Fighter finale where BJ Penn will take on Frankie Edgar for the third time; this time at 145 lbs. Also, Houston’s own Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis will be having his second UFC fight against Guto Inocente. (That is his real name, I checked it twice.) I would have loved to take the time to look up all the fights on both cards and give you my picks, but I’m on vacation. I’m drinking coffee with my shirt off right now, and tomorrow I’m going to the beach. So here’s my picks for the main card on UFC 175:

185 lbs – Kevin Casey (8-3) vs Bubba Bush (8-2): Yeah, I know it’s not on the main card, in fact, it’s the first fight of the night. But, Bubba is an Aggie, so he gets special treatment. Bubba will dominate Casey on the ground with his wrestling, simple as that. Bubba wins by unanimous decision in his UFC debut.

135 lbs – Marcus Brimage (6-2) vs Russell Doane (13-3): At first, I thought this was a mistake the UFC made on their website. They have this fight on the main card and Faber vs Caceres on the prelims, but I was wrong, there was no mistake made by the UFC; this is real life. Neither fighter has been impressive, Brimage comes from TUF house and Doane is from Hawaii. I don’t know how exciting it will be, this is Brimage’s first try at 135 lbs, and he may gas. Either way, Doane wins by unanimous decision.

185 lbs – Uriah Hall (8-4) vs Thiago Santos (9-2): This fight has a real chance of being an all out brawl. It depends on if Hall brings any aggression to the cage. Although he’s only 1-2 in the UFC, Hall has shown how devastating his KO’s can be. Santos is from TUF Brazil and is coming off a sick body kick KO over Ronny Markes, but can he handle Hall? I say no. Hall will come out aggressive knowing he is on a short leash, and will get the first round KO.

265 lbs – Stefan Struve (25-6) vs Matt Mitrione (7-3): Mitrione is coming off of an embarrassing first round submission loss to Brendan Scahub, and after Schaub’s last performance he better win this one to stay in the UFC. Unfortunately, Struve is not an easy opponent to face. He’s like 8 feet tall, and can take an ass whooping. Struve has been sidelined with a heart condition with a heart condition that was diagnosed right after his fight with Mark Hunt, but is looking to get back into heavyweight title contention. Mitrione may have a good jaw, but I don’t think he can win this one. Struve’s standup will be too much for “Meathead“, and he’ll get a second round TKO.

135 lbs Title – Ronda Rousey (9-0) vs Alexis Davis (16-5): Although Davis has experience over Rousey, that’s the only upper hand she will have in this fight. Rousey showed her always improving stand up game in her last fight, but for this one she will go back to her roots. Rousey wins by first round arm bar….duh.

185 lbs Title – Chris Weidman (11-0) vs Lyoto Machida (21-4): Hopefully Machida has been drinking his pee every morning like a good boy should, because he will need it for this fight. Weidman is good, but I still don’t like him for what he did to Anderson. So, I have to go with Machida on this one. Machida will keep his distance from Weidman, making it almost impossible to take him down to the mat; Machida’s striking will win the fight. Machida wins by decision.

Now go out and place your bets, and win “us” some money.
